RTMF Skate Generation Floripa Brazil

The last week of March was killer if you happened to be in Florianopolas Brazil. The Barros family hosted the Redbull Skate Generation contest held in the infamous RTMF Pool. The way it was set up it was like 2 contest in one. Friday and Saturday they did a regular style contest for Am's, Pro's, Masters, and Legends. Sunday was the team event taking the top 5 riders from each class to make up the teams. All the first place finishers would be one team, and the same would follow for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Pedro's runs were something you had to see to believe. His high speed attack, with massive airs, grinds, and everything in between left everyone in awe. Duane gave everything he had with every run. Frontside rocks, Indy airs, Fastplants, 540 slides, Potato grinds, and more. After the dust settled Duane ended up 2nd, everyone but the judges thought Duane should have won the individual event. Nathan Jimi Beck took second in the Pro division behind Pedro with some killer lines, nose grinds, and frontside inverts on the hip. Sunday was the day of the team event and Pedro didn't disappoint the packed hillside or the crowd poolside. Duane was still battered from the day before and wasn't able to put the lines together like the day before, but was still out for blood. Jimi was also a little off on Sunday, but put in some killer runs including a rad doubles run with Alex Sorgente. Pedros team held onto first, while DP and Jimi finished the team event in third. It was a killer event with a crowd that really appreciates the roots and the future of skateboarding.

PEDRO DESTROYS BONDI WITH ANOTHER 3 PEAT!

Pedro's Down Under Domination continued with a Bondi 3 Peat! Taking yet another win after Bowl-A- Rama in Wellington NZ, Bowl-riders in Manly and then the Bondi Bowl Jam at Bondi Beach NSW Australia. That is 3 comps this month and back to back to back wins defending his crown at the Bondi Bowl Jam. The competition was fierce as Bucky Lasek came 2nd, Rune Glifberg 3rd, and Nathan "Jimi" Beck taking a close 4th. kalani ripped, but just missed the finals by half a point and ended up 9th. Jimi had big airs, sick nose grinds through the corner, tailgrab and frontside 540's just missing the podium. Rune was on with his smooth clean precise style floating lofty airs well above head high. Bucky had a huge bag of tricks mixing it up on the lip and in the air, but Pedro had the juice with his massive power lines, blasting upside down 540's indy, stale and melon, getting screams from the crowd and the judges.

Kalani David cracks the top 5 at the 13th Annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest

Kalani was destroying the pool at the SJ Lake Cunningham skatepark. He was blasting big Stalefishes, 540's, kickflip indy's, stalefish to disaster over the hip, and more to make the top 5 in his 3rd pro contest. Grom prospects Seth Sanders and CJ Collins were both ripping the pool and showing that the future looks bright!

Pedro & Duane at the Portland Invitational

Pedro, Duane, and Kalani headed up to Portland over the weekend for the Portland Invitational. After Kalani's 9th at Coastal Carnage he jumped into the deep waters of the massive Dew Bowl. Kalani didn't make the cut, but still ripped the bowl. DP skated with his trademark style.

Chris Miller sums it up it best
DP. Duane is of course the master of disaster and legendary Punk Rock icon of skateboarding. My memories of Duane are seeing him at Upland combi with his black and red striped Santa Cruz board and leopard dyed hair. Edgers on his Blackhart wheels and absolute critical skating in the heaviest pool of all time. Santa Cruz was also my first sponsor and I remember hanging out with Olson, DP and Salba in awe. I also remember Duane being the top competitor of his time along with his tech rival - Eddie Elguera. Duane was punk, but don't forget that he has always been an incredible contest skater who went head to head with Eddie: style and attitude against technique and training at numerous events throughout the early 80's. Duane's attitude of commitment and emotion shaped mine and many others approach to skateboarding and life. Elguera was awesome too but DP defined passion and the go for broke spirit of skateboarding that made it a lifestyle and not just another sport. The fact that at 50 he skates the way he does blows my mind.

Pedro was killing it with high speed lines, huge airs, and big transfers. In the end it was close between him and Bucky, with Bucky just edging Pedro out for the win.
